Friday, December 10, 2021, 10:46 The Sandak family is continuing their campaign for a thorough investigation of the death of their son, Ahuvia, z”l. On Friday, December 10, the one-year anniversary of Ahuvia’s death (Hebrew date, 6 Tevet), approximately 300 people, including family, friends, Bat Ayin residents, rabbis and other public figures, visited his grave in the Kfar Etzion Cemetery. Family and friends spoke in memory of Ahuvia. A demonstration at the String Bridge in Jerusalem calling for the policemen who caused Ahuvia’s death to be put on trial is planned for Saturday night, after Shabbat.
During the demonstration, kaddish will be said in memory of Ahuvia by his father, Avraham, and participants will hold a study session “for the elevation of his soul”. On Monday, a memorial ceremony will be held in Jerusalem at the Jewish Institute for the Blind with the participation of the family, friends, rabbis and other public figures.
The announcement for the demonstration reads, “Today, everyone knows about the terrible cover-up! And it continues: The policemen are still free. The PIU [Police Investigation Unit] is still covering for the policemen and concealing the truth. And this week, the PIU interrogated heroic border policemen for two hours. This is a disgrace.”
Over the past year, a widespread public campaign had been held to have the policemen responsible for Ahuvia’s death stand trial and to reveal the truth about the circumstances of the death. Recently, there has been a renewal of protests in Jerusalem – see here and here – and other regions of Israel, demanding that the policemen be put on trial. As part of the protests, recently demonstrators put up a display simulating Ahuvia’s death, featuring an overturned car with a doll trapped under it and pools of fake blood surrounding it.
