Detainee released within hours, court order was baseless

The detention order

Wednesday, March 1, 2023, 7:38 On Tuesday, the Yehuda and Shomron Police detained an approximately 18-year-old Elon Moreh resident at his home under the authority of a court order that they had requested. The detainee was interrogated on suspicion of participating in a demonstration protesting the murderous terror attack that had occurred in Hawara on Sunday. The detainee was held for several hours at the police station and then released after it turned out that he had not been at the demonstration. Jerusalem Magistrates Court Judge Gioia Skappa-Shapiro issued the baseless order on 28.2.23. Honenu Attorney Asaf Gonen assisted the detainee at the police station.

Honenu sharply criticized the detention: “Detaining an individual who was not even at the demonstration reflects the heavy-handed modus operandi that Yehuda and Shomron Police have set as their goal: carrying out highly publicized detentions for which there are no grounds based on evidence. The intent of the police is to besmirch settlers and their communities. They are not focusing on enforcing the law with regard to rock-throwing terror, Molotov cocktail attacks, and other daily attacks within their jurisdiction.”
