Tuesday, June 8, 2021, 10:00 Approximately two and a half weeks ago, an Arab mob attempted to murder Y., a Binymin resident, as he was on his way to his job as a security guard for the Jerusalem Light Rail. At dawn, when Y. reached the Beit Hanina neighborhood of Jerusalem, he noticed approximately 100 masked Arabs holding PLO flags, blocking the street and throwing rocks at cars.
Because the rioters were blocking the intersection, Y. quickly turned into a nearby alley, turned off his lights, and called the police. As he made contact with the police, the masked rioters ran up to him and gestured to him to open his car door.
Y. did not respond, so the rioters threw rocks at his car. Three rocks hit the front windshield and shattered it and three more rocks damaged the driver’s side window. A commercial vehicle suddenly came up behind Y., with four more masked rioters holding PLO flags, and forcibly rammed his car.
Feeling that his life was endangered, Y. fired into the air, causing the rioters to flee into an alley. Y. attempted to extricate himself from the alley, then the commercial vehicle blocked him again, but Y. quickly maneuvered his car and succeeded in escaping the site.
Y. was evacuated to the Hadassah Mt. Scopus Hospital and since the attack has been suffering from severe headaches and back pains. Immediately after the attack, Y. filed a complaint for attempted murder with the Shafat Police Station in Jerusalem. Despite the security cameras in the area, no detention of suspects has been reported.
Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, who is currently assisting numerous victims of nationalistic crime: “It is terrifying to think of how the incident would have ended if my client had not been armed and capable of self-defense. We must not reconcile ourselves to a reality of attempted murder of Jews by mobs on the streets of the capital city. We expect that all necessary investigative and intelligence gathering steps will be taken to detain the perpetrators of the attack.
“We call on the Attorney General’s office and the courts to try terrorists for the most serious charge possible, because terror must be uncompromisingly fought. Honenu will continue to follow this case and will act so that the terrorists who attempted to murder my client will be penalized to the full extent of the law.”
